When it comes to the annual "Spring Ahead" clock change it reminds me to evaluate my projects. This year, I slept past the "new time" because my old alarm clock does not automatically change via the Internet. "Why not?" you may ask. The answer is simple: I like the large LED number display which I can easily see through sleepy eyes from across the room. I'm a firm believer in the adage, "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"
So this year, once again, I will try to finalize the publication of my 4th book. This, of course, will require a good deal of technology that I am not mentally equipped with.
Having said that, I will try to do as much as I can and farm the rest out to people who grasp all the requirements.
Is it just me? Is it age-related? I'm no spring chicken.
Most likely some of each.
When I started to write children's books, I knew I loved doing the writing. When it came time to (literally) get it all down on paper, with pictures, wrapped in an appealing cover, and available for purchase, that took some serious research and skills. Since that time, eight years ago, there have been a gazillion algorithm changes! Okay, maybe only a few thousand changes, but when you only need those skills every so often, and I'm talking years in between, my curious brain goes to sleep!
I'm trying my best this spring to "produce" as much as I can on my own for many reasons.
Cost is a big one! Those "experts," rightfully so, have the skills to get things done in the shortest time and know the best way to attract customers to my books for their kids, grandkids, students, etc. It's the same reason I hired a fantastic artist to do my illustrations. If you saw my 3rd book (Thank you!), "You Can't Make Me!" you know I am not an artist either.
And lest I forget to mention, my health and strength are a top priority.
Last year's 'trip and fall' is still being addressed. I've managed to stave off a second surgery with lots of physical therapy along with various over-the-counter pain relief trials. As we age, we don't bounce back as well... but, I still have a bounce in my step (most days).
Just as our yard starts to show its Spring fashion, I would encourage you to stop a moment each time you go out the door and take it all in! Daffodils, flowering trees and shrubs, and even the weeds that have survived another winter. Breathe deeply and let the sun add warmth to your face! It does a body good!
